Pear Moissanite Necklace, 3ct to 5ct, 925 Silver 18k Plated

A pear cut has a rounded end and a single point, so it hangs with direction. Set point up on a 1.5mm chain, it draws the eye down the neckline and gives the pendant a defined top and bottom instead of the symmetry of a round stone. The 1.5mm chain is deliberately fine. A heavier link would compete with the stone and make the whole piece look like costume, where a thin chain lets the pear do the work.

The stone is moissanite, lab grown and graded, set on 925 sterling silver plated in 18k gold. Plated means a gold layer over silver, not solid gold, and the silver underneath is the reason the piece will not go green the way brass does. The stone itself is the hard part of the equation: Mohs 9.25 and a refractive index near 2.65, which gives a pear its long flashes along the point where a softer stone would look flat.

Three weights are offered, 3ct, 4ct and 5ct. The 3ct pear is the one to pick if you wear necklaces in layers, because it keeps enough room for a second chain. The 4ct is the balance point, large enough to be the only piece you need. The 5ct is for an open collar where nothing else is competing. Pendant and chain colours are selected separately across silver, gold and rose gold, so a warm pendant can sit on a cool chain.
