A stud is the hardest piece of jewellery to get right because there is nowhere to hide. One stone sits flat against the lobe with no chain, no drop and no movement to distract from it, so the cut and the clarity of the stone are the whole product. These are sold as matched pairs by per ear weight rather than total weight, which is the clearer way to buy studs, since what you actually see on each side is one stone and not a combined figure.
Every stone is certified D colour moissanite. D is the top of the colourless range, and in a stud it is particularly visible: the stone sits against skin, which pushes warm tones into anything that is not graded properly. Moissanite brings its own strengths to a stud as well. A refractive index of about 2.65 against diamond at 2.42 gives it more fire per millimetre, and 9.25 on the Mohs scale keeps the flat top face from scuffing dull against pillows and phone screens.
Four weights are offered per ear. The 0.3ct pair is a true everyday size that passes under a dress code. The 0.5ct is the common upgrade and still reads as discreet. The 1ct starts to be noticed across a table and is the point where most people stop. The 2ct is a statement stud. Two finishes are available on 100 percent 925 sterling silver: white and rose gold.
